Tom Fisher’s career as an architect has been about
integrating practical professional experience with creative ideas,
environmental ethics and natural elements.
Mr. Fisher is experienced in a broad range of
building types and construction systems. He is a registered Architect
in Virginia, North Carolina and Hawaii, a member of the American
Institute of Architects (AIA) and certified by the National Council of
Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He has worked for award
winning architectural firms during his 25 year career. His professional
focus is on the application of environmentally responsive building
strategies including energy efficiency, site sensitive design, indoor
air quality and the use of ecologically appropriate materials.
Mr. Fisher has been a US Green Building Council
LEEDTM Accredited Professional since 2002 and is an
experienced green building consultant and facilitator. He is a faculty
member at GreenAdvantage
and is on the Board of Directors of The Virginia Sustainable Building
Network (VSBN). He has presented technical papers and presentations on
sustainable design and low-technology construction techniques at
professional conferences and is a co-author, with Architect Loren
Abraham, of the English language adaptation of Living Spaces, Ecological Design and Building. He
was also named Steward for the month of January, 2001 by the Virginia
Center for Stewardship. His design work has been published in Natural
Home Magazine and in the recent book Green by Design.
Raised in New England, Tom Fisher graduated from
the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine with a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Human Ecology in 1977. After several years of broad
construction experience and professional training he received a Master
of Architecture degree with a minor in Landscape Architecture and the
American Institute of Architects' Certificate of Merit Award at the
North Carolina State University School of Design.
